Tjasa Demsar and Diek Grobler

PAINTING EXHIBITION

Gallerie Cite’ Internationale des Arts, PARIS, France, 14 – 24 december 2005

The vernissage will be on 14 December at 6 pm at the Gallery of the Gallerie Cite’ Internationale des Arts, 18, rue de l'Hotel de Ville, Paris 4. The exhibition will remain opened until 24 December. Opening hours are from 2 pm until 7 pm.

Tjasa Demsar, Casa di Capri, 2005, acryl on canvas, 90 x 120 cm

Diek Grobler, Andromeda, 2005, oil on wood, 40 x 40 cm

Five years ago, in November 2000, two artists from very different parts of the world met at the Cité International des Arts in Paris and became friends. Tjasa Demsar, a Slovenian artist living in the heart of central Europe, and Diek Grobler, a South African artist and animator found that despite different cultural backgrounds, and different mother tongues, their visual approach to the world connected them.
Tjasa Demsar is a Slovenian artist who, after living, studying and working in Italy, the Netherlands, U.K., France, U.S.A over the last twenty years, settled a year ago at Villa Flora in Branik village, Wine Country of Slovenia; right in the heart of Central Europe.
She views her work as a continuation of the concerns of expressionism. Colour is the main concern in her paintings, exploring the emotional and expressive qualities. Her colours are used freely and vibrantly. The paintings vibrate with the contrasts of warm and cold, light and dark, bright and dull.
Ms. Demsar is an avid traveller, and captures the essence of the places she visits in vibrant abstracted pictures. Gardens with lush vegetation and ornaments, busy landscapes with swirling clouds, a coloured square of Burano island; Through her use of colour and shape Ms. Demsar captivates the viewer with her joyful celebration of life through her art.
In contrast, Diek Grobler’s work is stripped of colour. His moody narrative paintings are executed in black and white, utilising the scraperboard technique, in which black paint is scraped away from the painting surface, and an image is created by means of the white ground shining through. Grobler has been living and working in Pretoria, South Africa, for the past twenty years. His work deals with narratives of both traditional western and African origin. The artist is interested in the use of myth as a means to order the world, and alters traditional myths so as to make them relevant to the world as we experience it today.

Slikarska razstava Tjaše Demšar in Dieka Groblerja
Paris, Gallerie Cite’ Internationale des Arts

14 – 24 december 2005

V svojih slikah zaobjame bistvo obiskanih krajev, in jih nam predstavlja v vibranti abstraktirani obliki. Vrtove z bujno vegetacijo in ornamenti, mocno razgibane pokrajine z oblaki v gibanju, pisan trg na otoku Burano v beneški laguni. Skozi svojo osebno uporabo barve in oblike Tjaša Demšar pritegne gledalcevo pozornost in ga popelje skozi veselja polno proslavljanje življenja, katerega je njena umetnost nabito polna.
Njegova dela so naracija njegovih evropskih in afriških korenin in tradicij.

Villa Saccomani Exhibition, 4 WOMEN ARTISTS, Pasiano del Pordenone, Italy in March 2002.

On the picture from left to right: curator of the exhibition Alessandra Santin and Tjasa Demsar

The works of Tjasa Demsar, a young and established Slovene artist, frame a burning universe of illuminating colors. Interpreted through the use of a extraordinary imaginary energy, these “virtual windows” show different and possible spaces: natural environment, a garden, a little vignette of a city.

Her paintings are, time after time, spaces in which one can live with a poetic view.  They belong to someone who can dialogue with contrasts and is not afraid of precise limits, and renewed forms and colors; of the one who can breath without fear in the infinite distances and in the limits of the space of the terrace and of the enclosed piazza.

There is time for life in every place, and it is showing itself to us splendidly and absolute as an icon, a concrete example of the variety of tones of a dream and myth that the artist hopes one day to encounter, indeed.

The irony of the argument and of the single presences - the plant in a flower pot, a fountain, a hill, and a palace…, become a weapon and a denouncement. The paintings of Demsar appear strong, as a power of a crystal that captures the refraction of light, every possible space and the attention of the whole world.

Obdelane z uporabo izredne imaginarne energije, ta “virtualna okna” prikazujejo kraje, ki so razlicni in možni: naravni ambient, vrt, delcek mesta.
